Where to Stay
The old colonial commercial strip along Kampala Road and the market area. Budget guesthouses like the Entebbe Backpackers charge $15–25/night for dorms and privates. Street food is excellent here — rolex stands (egg-and-chapati wraps) are everywhere and cost under $1. Practical for transit travelers who want to spend a night before heading upcountry.
The strip along Portal Road and the Botanical Garden area has the best mid-range hotels and restaurants in Entebbe. The Botanical Beach Hotel and Karibu Guesthouse sit right here. This is where you want to eat — Faze 3 restaurant does excellent nyama choma (grilled meat) and fresh tilapia from the lake for UGX 25,000–45,000. Evening sundowners at the Victoria Pier bar are mandatory.
Five kilometers east of the airport, this leafy lakeside area has Uganda's top luxury properties: the Speke Resort Munyonyo (Uganda's premier conference and leisure hotel, rooms from $180/night) and the newer Turaco Treetops boutique lodge. The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting was held at Munyonyo — it's a genuinely beautiful stretch of Lake Victoria shoreline with manicured grounds, private beach access, and spa facilities.
Events & Festivals
East Africa's premier music and arts festival, held annually in Entebbe at the Busaabala waterfront — about 20 minutes from town. Features contemporary African music, spoken word, dance, and visual arts across multiple stages over 3 days, with international headliners mixed with Ugandan artists. Tickets run UGX 50,000–150,000 ($13–40) and the setting on Lake Victoria at sunset is genuinely spectacular; this is one of the most underrated music festivals on the continent.

Uganda celebrates independence from Britain on October 9th with military parades in Kampala and community events across Entebbe. The lakefront area gets festive with food stalls, music, and Ugandan flags everywhere.
