Running from late July through the first Tuesday of August, this is the real deal — not a sanitized tourist version but the event actual Antiguans dress for all year. J'ouvert at 4am Monday morning (paint, mud, and soca music in the streets) and the Monday/Tuesday Grand Parade with elaborate costumes are the centerpieces. Held the week before Sailing Week, this regatta focuses on wooden classic and vintage yachts — think 1930s schooners and restored 1960s racers sailing out of Nelson's Dockyard.
