From BNA airport to Los Cabos

Reaching Nashville International

Lyft/Uber from downtown Nashville runs $18-28 (15-20 min, surge pricing 6-9am). Rental car via Nashville/I-40 East is 20 min, $85-120/day for economy at the off-site lot. WeRide shuttle from downtown hotels is flat $20/person one-way, takes 25-30 min, departs hourly 5am-11pm. Public transit (MTA bus 18) is $2.75, runs every 30 min, but takes 50+ min from downtown—only use this if you have zero time pressure. Parking at the airport itself: short-term $2/hour, long-term $12/day, economy $10/day (no free shuttle, 3 min walk). For trips over 5 days, off-site BNA economy lots via Avis/Hertz are $6-8/day but require shuttle time.

Getting from SJD into Los Cabos

Option 1 — Private shuttle or taxi: Fixed-rate taxis from the SJD terminal to Cabo San Lucas run about $75-90 USD, to the Hotel Zone it's $55-70, and to San José del Cabo it's $30-40. Book at the official taxi counter inside the terminal to avoid scams — don't accept offers from people approaching you in the arrivals hall. Option 2 — Shared airport shuttle: Companies like Los Cabos Transfers and Best Day run shared vans for $25-35 per person to most hotels along the corridor; they drop multiple passengers so it adds 30-60 minutes. Option 3 — Rideshare (Uber): Uber operates at SJD and is significantly cheaper — expect $30-45 to Cabo San Lucas, $15-22 to San José del Cabo. Open the app in the arrivals hall (not the pickup zone) as some drivers wait nearby. Travel time is 45-60 minutes to Cabo San Lucas, 10-20 minutes to San José del Cabo.

Planning Nashville to Los Cabos

Los Cabos sits at the very tip of Baja California Sur, where the Pacific Ocean collides with the Sea of Cortez in a dramatic arc of desert cliffs and turquoise water. It's not one city — it's a 20-mile tourist corridor connecting the rowdy spring-break party zone of Cabo San Lucas to the quieter, more Mexican town of San José del Cabo, with a strip of resort hotels in between. Most Americans who haven't been picture Senor Frog's and tequila shots; that's accurate for Cabo San Lucas, but San José del Cabo has genuine colonial architecture, a walkable art district, and restaurants that would hold their own in Mexico City. The distinction matters enormously when booking — same airport, completely different experience.

Best-month weather in Los Cabos

January

5779°F · 1 rain days

January is near-perfect beach weather — sunny, dry, and low humidity. Evenings get genuinely cool (bring a light jacket), but days are warm without being brutal.

February

5880°F · 1 rain days

February is one of the best months to visit: reliably sunny, comfortable temperatures, and peak whale-watching season. The whale shark aggregation in La Paz is also accessible as a day trip.

The destination guide flags August and September as the least favorable months.

Two areas to consider

Cabo San Lucas Downtown

mid-range

The party hub of Los Cabos — Marina Boulevard is lined with tourist bars, souvenir shops, and seafood restaurants. Medano Beach is the main safe swimming beach and gets crowded with vendors and water toys. Best for: first-timers who want the full Cabo experience, bachelor/bachelorette parties, and easy access to fishing charters at the marina.

San José del Cabo Centro

mid-range

The more authentic half of Los Cabos — a genuine colonial town with a pretty zócalo, a famous Thursday Art Walk (November through June, 5-9pm), and restaurants like Jazamango and El Merkado that locals actually eat at. Hotels here are cheaper than the corridor and you're walkable to real Mexican life. The estuary behind town is a birding hotspot worth the 20-minute walk.

Local planning tip

Book your whale-watching or snorkel tours directly through the operators at the Cabo San Lucas marina (look for Cabo Expeditions or Cabo Adventures booths) rather than through your hotel's concierge — hotel-booked tours add a 30-40% commission markup for the exact same boat and experience. Also: the free municipal bus (Suburbano) runs the entire corridor between San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas for about 40 pesos ($2) — it runs frequently from 7am to 10pm and stops at all the major resort entrances. Using it for even 4-5 corridor trips saves you $50-80 in Uber fees per person over a week-long stay.

Visa and entry notes for US travelers

US passport holders do not need a visa for Mexico. You'll receive a tourist card (FMM — Forma Migratoria Múltiple) either electronically through your airline or on paper at the airport; the fee is typically included in your airfare. You're allowed up to 180 days. Your passport must be valid for the duration of your stay — Mexico does not enforce the 6-month validity rule that some countries require. Starting in 2025-2026, Mexico requires all international arrivals to complete a digital entry form (similar to the old paper FMM) before arrival — most airlines push this through their check-in process, but check the INM (Instituto Nacional de Migración) website before flying. No vaccinations are officially required for entry from the US.
