How we know: Sources are listed at the end. Fees, credits and guest rules come from the card issuers' own pages and dated Points Guy articles; card terms change often, so confirm on the issuer's page before applying. Wildly does not track lounge usage or card data.
There are three honest ways into an airport lounge: a premium credit card, a paid membership or day pass, or status you already hold (elite tier, business class ticket, military ID). Which one is cheapest depends on how many times a year you would actually walk through the door, and on whether the airports you fly through have lounges worth entering.
What Priority Pass costs if you buy it directly
Priority Pass is the largest third-party lounge network and the one most credit cards bundle. Bought directly, it comes in three tiers, per Chase's summary of Priority Pass levels (prices as of August 2025):
| Plan | Annual fee | Member visits | Guests | |---|---|---|---| | Standard | $99 | $35 per visit | $35 each | | Standard Plus | $329 | 10 included, then $35 | $35 each | | Prestige | $469 | Unlimited | $35 each |
The Points Guy's Priority Pass guide (May 2025) puts the network at about 1,700 eligible locations in more than 600 cities, including some airport restaurants that give members a dining credit averaging about $28 per person. The catch: most credit-card versions of Priority Pass no longer include the restaurant benefit. Per the same TPG article, American Express, Chase (from July 2024) and Capital One's personal Venture X (from January 2023) all exclude restaurants.
Premium cards that include lounge access
Card terms below are from the issuers' pages and were checked on 2026-09-29. Treat them as a starting point, not a quote.
Capital One Venture X. $395 annual fee, Priority Pass access to 1,300+ lounges plus Capital One's own Lounge and Landing locations, according to Capital One's Venture X page. TPG's September 2026 review adds the $300 annual credit for bookings through Capital One Travel and 10,000 anniversary miles, and notes that complimentary guests at Capital One Lounges now require $75,000 in annual spend. If you would use the travel credit anyway, the net cost is $95 per year.
Chase Sapphire Reserve. $795 annual fee, up to $300 in annual travel statement credits, Priority Pass Select with up to two guests (additional guests $27 each), plus Chase Sapphire Lounges by The Club, according to Chase's card page. The guest allowance is the reason families tend to prefer this card over Venture X.
American Express Platinum. $895 annual fee, according to American Express's card page, which also lists the Global Lounge Collection (1,550+ lounges), Centurion Lounges, a Priority Pass membership, and 10 Delta Sky Club visits per year when flying Delta. Centurion Lounge guests cost $50 per adult and $30 per child unless you spend $75,000 on the card in a calendar year, per TPG's Centurion Lounge guide (May 2026). The Platinum's fee is offset by a long list of statement credits, but only if your spending already matches them.

Free or near-free lounge access
- Military. USO airport centers are open to active duty, Reserve and National Guard members, military retirees and eligible family members with a valid DoD ID, per USO. They are in most major US airports and several international hubs.
- Business or first class tickets. Lounge access comes with the fare on nearly all international premium cabins. If you fly a route like JFK to Paris or LAX to Tokyo once a year, a well-timed business class fare can be a cheaper path to a lounge than a $795 card; set a price alert on the route and let a sale come to you.
- Airline elite status. Top-tier status on US carriers typically includes club access on international itineraries. Check your airline's status page; rules vary by carrier and by whether the flight is domestic or international.
- Day passes. Many independent and airline lounges sell walk-up passes. Prices vary by airport and change often, so check the specific lounge before you fly rather than relying on a published list.
Day pass or annual card: the break-even question
Skip the spreadsheet and ask two questions:
- How many lounge visits will I realistically make this year? Count only trips where you arrive early enough to use one. If the answer is under four, a card with a $395–$895 fee is hard to justify on lounges alone.
- Would I use the card's credits anyway? Venture X's $300 credit only counts through Capital One Travel; Sapphire Reserve's $300 applies to broad travel purchases; the Platinum's credits are spread across specific merchants. A credit you would not otherwise spend is not a discount.
If you would use the credits and visit lounges more than a handful of times, the card usually wins because you also get the points earning. If not, buy the Standard Priority Pass at $99 plus $35 per visit, or pay at the door, and put the difference toward the flight itself.
Where Priority Pass is and is not useful
Coverage is strongest at big international hubs and weakest at US domestic terminals, where the network often relies on one or two crowded lounges. Before counting on a lounge at a specific airport, search the Priority Pass app for that terminal; a lounge in Terminal 1 does not help if you depart from Terminal 4 airside. Departures from JFK, LAX and Chicago O'Hare all have Priority Pass options, but which ones are open, and how full they are, changes month to month.
FAQ
What's the cheapest way to get unlimited lounge access? Among the options above, Venture X has the lowest sticker price ($395) with unlimited Priority Pass visits for the cardholder, and its net cost falls to $95 if you use the $300 Capital One Travel credit. Bought directly, unlimited Priority Pass (Prestige) is $469 per year.
Can you get lounge access without a credit card? Yes: a paid Priority Pass membership, a day pass, a premium-cabin ticket, airline elite status, or USO centers for eligible military travelers.
Do Priority Pass cards include airport restaurants? Usually not anymore. Per TPG, Amex, Chase and the personal Venture X exclude restaurant credits; a directly purchased membership still includes them where offered.
How many guests can I bring? It depends on the card. Sapphire Reserve allows two free guests at Priority Pass lounges. Amex Platinum charges for Centurion Lounge guests, and Venture X charges for Capital One Lounge guests, unless you meet a $75,000 annual spend threshold (per the TPG articles cited). Check the issuer's current terms, including the Priority Pass guest rule for your specific card, before you travel with family.
