The reconstructed medieval old town is UNESCO-listed and genuinely beautiful, though touristy. Restaurants on the main square charge 30-50% more than elsewhere — eat one meal here for the atmosphere, then escape to better value a few blocks south on Freta Street. Hotels here tend to be boutique and pricier but worth it if you want that cobblestone-at-dawn experience.
The east-bank district that survived WWII intact and still has original pre-war architecture — gritty, artsy, and genuinely lived-in.
