The spring color festival falls during the cyclone shoulder season, which is admittedly the least ideal weather window, but the celebrations in towns like Flacq and Triolet are authentic and joyful. Indo-Mauritians celebrate with colored powder, water, traditional bhojpuri music, and community feasts — genuinely worth experiencing if your travel dates align.
Tamil Hindu devotees carry ornate 'cavadees' (spiked frameworks attached through pierced skin) to temples in an act of devotion — one of the most visually extraordinary religious events in the Indian Ocean.
