Where to Stay
The tourist spine of Montego Bay running along the waterfront — Doctor's Cave Beach, Margaritaville, Pier 1, and dozens of restaurants and bars are all here. Most mid-range hotels and guesthouses cluster on or just off this strip. Walkable at day and early evening, though take taxis after midnight.
The luxury resort corridor east of the airport along the A1 highway, home to Half Moon Resort, Hyatt Ziva, and the Rose Hall Great House historic plantation. Private beaches, golf courses, and full resort facilities — you may not need to leave the property. Expect to pay US$400–800+/night at the major brands.
A quieter residential-feeling area between the Hip Strip and Rose Hall with condos, villas, and smaller boutique hotels at lower prices than the big resort corridor. Good base if you want to self-cater — a Sovereign supermarket is nearby — without paying Rose Hall prices.
The real urban core of Mo Bay with local guesthouses, the Craft Market, street food, and the historic Sam Sharpe Square. Significantly cheaper accommodation (US$40–70/night) but not a comfortable base for first-timers — petty theft is more common and streets get rough after dark.
Not technically Montego Bay, but 90 minutes west by road and a genuinely different vibe — Seven Mile Beach is one of the Caribbean's best, the town is more backpacker-friendly, and prices run 20–30% lower than Mo Bay resorts. If you're budget-conscious and beach-focused, consider basing here and flying in/out of MBJ.
