Skip the overpriced tourist shuttles to Lake Bled and take the direct Alpetour bus from Ljubljana's main bus station (platform 28) — it costs €7 each way and takes 1 hour 20 minutes, dropping you at the lake itself. The medieval core clustered below Ljubljana Castle, centered on Mestni trg and the Triple Bridge. A 10-minute walk south of the old town, this bohemian neighborhood sits along a smaller canal and has Ljubljana's best density of cheap local restaurants, natural wine bars, and coffee shops frequented by students and artists. A former military barracks turned autonomous cultural center — Ljubljana's version of Christiania. Not for everyone, but the late-night alternative bar scene here is genuinely unique; the area feels safe despite its gritty aesthetic.
