Da Nang in June

June is peak heat and peak domestic Vietnamese tourism — Vietnamese families descend on Da Nang for beach holidays, My Khe Beach is genuinely crowded from 7-10am and 4-7pm (midday is too hot for locals and most tourists alike), and hotel prices are at their annual maximum. DIFF wraps up in June. Worth visiting if you can get a deal on a resort with a pool, but not the experience for someone wanting a quiet, romantic beach holiday.

Insider Tip

Book your Da Nang hotel on the west (river) side of the beach strip rather than the beachfront for March-April visits — you'll pay 30-40% less, it's a 5-minute walk to the sand, and you avoid the windblown sand that plagues beachfront terraces. More importantly: the Hai Van Pass coastal road between Da Nang and Hue (Highway 1 north) is one of the great drives in Asia, but you don't need to rent a motorbike and risk your life — hire a private car with driver for the full Da Nang to Hue scenic route including Bach Ma National Park for about $60-80 total split between 2-4 people, book through your hotel or Klook.

Where to Stay

My Khe Beach (Bai Bien My Khe)
Mid-range

The main tourist beach strip running along Vo Nguyen Giap Street — this is where 80% of foreign visitors stay. Lined with everything from $25/night guesthouses to the $200/night Hyatt Regency and Pullman, all within steps of a clean, wide beach. The northern end near the Marriott is more resort-heavy; the southern end near Pham Van Dong Street has better local food within walking distance.

Han River District (Hai Chau)
Mid-range

The urban heart of Da Nang on the west bank of the Han River — home to the Dragon Bridge, the night market, and the most authentic local dining scene in the city. Less convenient for beach access (20-minute Grab ride) but you'll feel like you're actually in Vietnam rather than a beach resort. Best budget and mid-range hotel value in the city: expect $20-50 for solid 3-star properties.

Son Tra Peninsula (Monkey Mountain)
Luxury

The jungle-covered promontory northeast of the city, home to InterContinental Da Nang and a handful of ultra-luxury villas carved into the hillside above the East Sea. Dramatically beautiful and genuinely private, but isolated — you need a taxi or motorbike to get anywhere. The InterContinental's beach club is accessible to non-guests for a fee and is arguably the most stunning pool setup in Vietnam.

An Thuong (Backpacker Area)
Budget-friendly

A grid of streets about 400m back from My Khe Beach that has quietly become Da Nang's low-budget hub — hostels from $8-12/night, a dense cluster of Western-friendly bars, Vietnamese cooking class operations, and motorbike rental shops. Less atmospheric than Hoi An's old town but genuinely convenient and social for solo travelers.

Marble Mountains Area (Ngu Hanh Son)
Budget-friendly

The southern stretch of the beach strip near the marble-carving village and the Marble Mountains themselves — quieter, cheaper, and local-feeling compared to the central My Khe strip. Good guesthouses for $18-30/night, and you can walk to the Marble Mountains in the morning before other tourists arrive. The 30km drive to Hoi An from here is slightly shorter.

Events & Festivals

APR
Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF)

The biggest annual event in Da Nang — teams from 8-10 countries compete with 20-minute fireworks displays over the Han River on consecutive Saturday nights from late April through June. The city gets absolutely packed with domestic Vietnamese tourists, riverside hotels sell out 3 months in advance, and the best free viewing spots on the Dragon Bridge fill up 2 hours early. Spectacular if you can book accommodation early; a logistical nightmare if you show up without a plan.

FEB
Tet Nguyen Dan (Vietnamese Lunar New Year)

Tet falls in late January or early February and is the most important Vietnamese holiday — Da Nang decorates the entire Han River promenade with flowers and lanterns, and the Dragon Bridge breathes actual fire on Tet Eve. Most local restaurants close for 3-7 days so tourist-facing restaurants get very crowded; stock up on snacks. The atmosphere is genuinely magical but prices spike 30-50% in the week around Tet.

MAR
Quan The Am Festival at Marble Mountains

A Buddhist festival held on the 19th day of the second lunar month (usually March) at the Non Nuoc Pagoda complex inside the Marble Mountains. Thousands of Vietnamese pilgrims make the climb up the marble steps carrying offerings, monks chant through the night, and the whole site fills with incense smoke and candlelight. Free to attend alongside locals, and deeply atmospheric compared to the usual tourist experience of the Marble Mountains.

DEC
Da Nang New Year's Eve Fireworks

December 31st brings a free fireworks display over the Dragon Bridge that rivals the DIFF in scale — the entire Han River promenade becomes a pedestrian street party from about 9pm, with street food vendors, live music stages, and an enormous countdown crowd. Hotels along the river charge premium rates for this night; book 2 months out if you want a riverside room with a view.
