Antalya's all-inclusive mega-resort corridor stretching east of the city along a long pebble beach. This is where the Titanic Hotels, Rixos, and Mardan Palace live — massive compounds where Russians and Germans pay $200-500/night all-in and never leave the property. Worth knowing about if you want a pampered beach week at prices far below Maldives or Caribbean equivalents. Not for travelers who want to experience actual Turkey.
The public beach strip west of the city center, backed by the Beydağları Mountains — the view is genuinely postcard-worthy. Mix of Antalyan families and tourists, free public beach access, and a promenade with affordable restaurants. Staying here in an apartment rental runs $50-100/night and puts you a 15-minute tram ride from Kaleiçi. Less charming than the old town but more authentic than Lara.
The actual working city center around Atatürk Caddesi and the bazaar district. Turkey's most prestigious film festival, running since 1964 and named for the region's famous oranges. International and Turkish films screen across the city with red carpet events, outdoor screenings, and industry crowds. October dates mean shoulder-season prices plus a genuine cultural event — not a tourist-facing festival but one that locals take seriously.
Performances staged inside the 2,000-year-old Aspendos Theater, one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheaters on earth, 47km east of Antalya. Watching a full opera or ballet in a Roman theater under the stars with 15,000 other people is a legitimately spectacular experience. Tickets run ₺500-2000 ($15-60) and go fast — book online at aspendosfestival.gov.tr before you arrive.
A surprisingly impressive international sand sculpture competition that takes over the Konyaaltı Beach park from May through October with massive elaborate sculptures on a rotating theme. Entry is cheap (around ₺50) and it's a good half-day activity that most visitors don't know about.
May 5-6 marks Hidrellez, the traditional Turkish and Roma spring festival celebrating the meeting of prophets Hizir and Ilyas.
