MARTA train from downtown Atlanta (Five Points Station) to Hartsfield-Jackson takes 38 minutes and costs $2.75 one-way — this is the cheapest option but trains run every 10-15 minutes and get packed. Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) from downtown costs $18-26 during off-peak, $35-50 during surge, and takes 20-25 minutes depending on traffic. Hotel shuttles are free if you're staying nearby. Drive yourself only if you're leaving before 6am or after 9pm; otherwise expect 30-40 minute parking lot lines. The BeltLine Connector bus ($2.50) runs from downtown but adds 45 minutes total travel time.
Getting from AYT into Antalya
Antalya Airport (AYT) is 13km northeast of the city center. Option 1: Havas airport shuttle runs every 30 minutes to the city center, costs around ₺80 (~$2.50) and takes 45-60 minutes depending on traffic — most budget-conscious option. Option 2: Antalyakart public bus (lines 800 or 810H) costs ₺30 (~$1) but requires a transit card from the airport kiosk and takes 60-75 minutes with stops; fine if you have light luggage. Option 3: Licensed taxi from the official rank costs ₺400-600 (~$12-18) and takes 20-30 minutes — negotiate or insist on the meter, avoid unmarked cars. Uber doesn't operate in Turkey; use BiTaksi app to book taxis without getting ripped off.
Planning Atlanta to Antalya
Antalya is Turkey's Mediterranean coast capital and the gateway to the Turquoise Coast — and Americans are wildly underrepresented here compared to the German, Russian, and British tourists who've been treating this place like their personal secret for decades. That's changing fast, and prices are creeping up, but it's still roughly 40-60% cheaper than comparable Mediterranean destinations in Spain, Italy, or Greece. You're getting Roman harbor ruins, Ottoman old town alleys, turquoise coves, and some of the best kebabs on earth, all in a city of two million people that actually functions like a real city rather than a tourist stage set.

Two areas to consider
Kaleiçi (Old Town)
mid-rangeThe Roman-walled old quarter is the most atmospheric place to stay in Antalya and where you should base yourself for at least part of the trip. Boutique hotels occupy converted Ottoman mansions — places like Tuvana Hotel and Alp Paşa Hotel run $80-150/night and have pool courtyards. The neighborhood is genuinely walkable to the harbor, the Hadrian's Gate, and the best restaurants. Avoid the very bottom of the harbor-front strip which has become aggressively touristy with overpriced fish restaurants targeting cruise passengers.
Lara Beach
luxuryAntalya's all-inclusive mega-resort corridor stretching east of the city along a long pebble beach. This is where the Titanic Hotels, Rixos, and Mardan Palace live — massive compounds where Russians and Germans pay $200-500/night all-in and never leave the property. Worth knowing about if you want a pampered beach week at prices far below Maldives or Caribbean equivalents. Not for travelers who want to experience actual Turkey.
Local planning tip
Rent a car (about $25-35/day through local operators like Decar or Pegasus Rent A Car — avoid the airport desks and book online in advance) and drive the D400 coastal highway west to Kaş and Kalkan. The stretch between Antalya and Kaş takes about 2 hours and passes Phaselis ruins directly on a pine-backed beach, the sunken city of Kekova you can kayak over, and the Gökkaya Bay which rivals anything in Croatia. Most package tourists never leave their resorts, so these spots are dramatically less crowded than their equivalents in Greece or Croatia. Stop at Üçağız village for freshwater fish lunch for $6-8 before the drive back.
Visa and entry notes for US travelers
US passport holders can visit Turkey visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period as of 2026 — no e-Visa required for Americans. You previously needed to purchase a $50 e-Visa, but the reciprocal visa waiver between the US and Turkey came into effect in 2023 and remains in place. Confirm currency of this on the Turkish Embassy website before travel, as this agreement has fluctuated historically. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your entry date. No vaccinations are required.
